Rock On (2012)

A Radiohead,

As I’m surrounded by an orgy of sounds from the band that destroyed rock n roll,

“For Whom the Bell Tolls,”

Metallica unloads,

I’m high off the Pixies dust,

Walking through the Doors of a California gold rush,

The coolness of Sonic Youth continues to show no rust,

In the Beatles I trust,

The five senses adjust

To hearing Hendrix make love to the guitar,

Later joined by Led Zeppelin,

The rock gods that they are,

Bizarre,

Like Ziggy Stardust or Pink Floyd during the Barrett years,

They had no peer,

Trouble nears,

As I Clutch the Rolling Stones,

Absorb the tone of Dylan’s poems,

A little Sex Pistols,

A dash of Ramones as I’m mixing in the kitchen,

Always preferred Porno For Pyros over Jane’s Addiction,

Elevated from the dark riffs of Black Sabbath and Morbid Angel,

Eardrums mangled by Cannibal Corpse and Pantera,

I’d have to say aside from the psychedelic era,

My favorite time in rock would be the grunge period,

When rock spirits

Like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden reigned,

Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins brought something new to the game,

When rock spirits

Like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden reigned,

Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins brought something new to the game,

Along with Tool, Helmet, and Primus,

Utterly timeless,

Back in my time machine,

I float to the talented trio that is Cream,

Take an Acid Bath to unwind to Queen,

Later on, I lie down,

Only to be awaken by Pet Sounds,

Slipping on banana peels left by the Velvet Underground,

Chuck berry popped curiosity’s cherry with Havana Moon,

And shortly after, Buddy Holly was taken from us way too soon,

The same could be said for a host of other rock artists,

Yet, rock carried on regardless,

Caught a Jefferson Airplane

To a show featuring White Zombie and Mudvayne,

Def were the Tones that came in abundance,

Caught a deal on some Suede from London,

For quality sounds I’m always hunting,

“Welcome to the Jungle,”

As I sedate you with Simon and Garfunkel,

Another super joint ritual to crucify you with some Nine Inch Nails,

Addicted to the tales from Queens of the Stone Age,

And Rage Against the Machine,

Hire a couple of Stooges to remove your spleen,

Such violence,

As my paramour flies solo and loses her balance

She jacks off to Stone Temple Pilots,

Somewhat savage,

How I’m turned on by the Body Count,

Expensive, the ransom amount,

When Ice-T killed that cop,

Yeah, I was there, but I had on gloves,

Now “Who do you love?”
