Thanks to the prison industrial complex
Our young men are putting your kids through college,
For many it took a knee on Floyd’s neck
For institutional racism to even be acknowledged,
Police brutality is only the tip of the iceberg
For those that think lynching is a nice word,
A protest is different from a riot,
Some Blacks and Whites have been getting along for years,
But government policies keep us divided,
Because the dirty little secret is
They don’t want us united,
Rather their frightened
We’ll upset the applecart of classism,
And the prism of the whole economic system,
Still, with wisdom we know bigotry is very prevalent,
I mean shit, it is what 45 represents,
For some the hatred is still being taught,
While others hate in secret afraid of being caught,
Peace to our young lionesses and lions,
The millennials out in these streets being defiant,
Inspiring, I keep writing because I can still hear
Emmett Till’s mother crying…
