Black Superhero (2016)
(Brace yourselves)
According to you I’m living in hell,
And pretty soon I’ll be dead or in jail,
But on the contrary,
I’m living quite well,
And I’ve never seen the inside of a jail cell,
I, like so many other Black males
Have a more positive story to tell,
About a man that earned two degrees,
And is making six figures,
Not that stereotypical drug dealing nigga,
No,
My dreams were much bigger,
I made good decisions so that the Cuffee Clan
Wants for nothing,
Brothers and sisters the time has come
For more positive consumptions,
Not the same tired old cliché chicken and dumplings
Of just getting by,
Onlookers wonder why I demonstrate my Black pride,
Because for far too long we’ve been degraded and beat down,
To the point where many of us lack pride…
In ourselves,
Sickly justifying homicides, and systemic genocide,
Rather than read a book off the shelf,
Or seek mental health,
And knowledge of self,
Our treasure and worth is beyond man’s wealth…
They say I don't belong because I'm too black, too strong,
But let me tell you even God sings along,
With the people who have been waiting on justice for far too long,
They say I don't belong because I'm too black, too strong,
But let me tell you even God sings along,
With the people who have been waiting on justice for far too long,
I picture God shaking his head,
Because for far too long,
Us humans have had it all wrong,
Such divisiveness,
With racist singalongs,
I see ignorance in throngs,
You ask why I'm too black too strong
Because slavery is not something you just
"Up and recover from,"
Besides, that bullshit is still going on,
Only in a different form,
You say forgive and forget,
But racial equality is still deformed,
More like inequality conformed,
Begrudgingly accepting me,
Yet secretly,
You’d sooner see me hanging from a tree,
History has shown that time and time again,
But I don’t choose to separate with voice and pen,
I just want this reality to sink in,
So those fighting for justice know what to defend,
Because you don’t know where you’re going
Unless you know where you’ve been,
A lot of folks are covering up racism with patriotism,
Yes, we see you,
As you try to spawn replicas with your outdated jism,
You can’t turn hatred into wisdom,
But yet,
That is what imbeciles insist on doing to the system,
Or trying to erase history like the bigotry in the sixties,
But rather than react like Bill Bixby,
My victory is obtained through peace, love, and tranquility,
And even if you were to get rid of me,
Another one will take my place,
God foretold my fate,
I’m a hero without the cape,
My likeness will exist throughout time and space…
They say I don't belong because I'm too black, too strong,
But let me tell you even God sings along,
With the people who have been waiting on justice for far too long,
They say I don't belong because I'm too black, too strong,
But let me tell you even God sings along,
With the people who have been waiting on justice for far too long,
Moving right along,
Here comes treachery in a thong,
She wants to ruin my happy household
Like they do in all those mumble rap songs,
Once again it’s on,
Do I subscribe to social media’s antics?
Or scroll on,
You must have mistaken the Don Magic Juan for a pawn,
Besides,
Haven’t you heard that thirst traps can lead to dirt naps,
Or futures worth scraps,
When a jealous jerk snaps,
Or perhaps a sap can make out with a sap,
Like my man said,
“This is real rap….”
Now, where was I,
Changing caterpillars into butterflies,
Metaphorically speaking,
Nice try,
More like debating an ignoramus small fry
On the outright lies in the original Birth of a Nation,
As he’s trying to fit hate speech into the equation,
I’m losing patience with the man
Who claims the Ku Klux Klan
Is the same as the Black Panthers,
I'm thinking is that your final answer,
Truth be told the Klan is more like a cancer,
While the Panthers were revolutionaries for justice
Who were hunted down like deer antlers,
How many lynchings or terrorist attacks
Did the Black Panthers ever commit?
I'll wait,
How is it that an Angela Davis can make
The FBI's top ten most wanted list,
Where only lowlife criminals, killers, rapists,
And assassins are supposed to exists?
I’ll blow to bits you apocalyptic hypocrites
With factual statistics and old-fashioned wit,
Expose your lack of knowledge with mere logic,
Regardless of whether you’re left, right, or independent,
I’ll be strong to the finish,
And no I don’t need any spinach,
To recapture glory
And restore the Black man and Black woman’s image,
It starts with us…
They say I don't belong because I'm too black, too strong,
But let me tell you even God sings along,
With the people who have been waiting on justice for far too long,
They say I don't belong because I'm too black, too strong,
But let me tell you even God sings along,
With the people who have been waiting on justice for far too long,
