Future Conversations with Our Daughters (2019)

Future Conversations with Our Daughters.jpg

I know high school can be stressful and scary,

But just remember that this moment is temporary,

Don’t get caught up in popularity,

All that matters is that you treat everyone fairly,

They call them bad boys for a reason,

And being a lady is never out of season,

Don’t let anyone treat you indecent,

Unfortunately, racism is a part of our country’s DNA,

But don’t let it hold you back

From getting what is rightfully yours one day,

Just be aware that it is something you must deal with,

Also remember that you are Black Queens,

Which is a blessing and a gift,

Follow God,

And allow your words and actions to uplift,

Be independent,

But in the right circumstance

Let a man, be a man,

If he shows you that he can’t, move on,

Don’t be hanging around too long

For a clown to get his act together,

Time is of the essence,

And I want your lives to be better than ours,

Even though nowadays,

More women are in positions of power,

They are also still being discriminated against,

And abused by cowards,

Just be mindful of that,

I’m always here when it is time for a chat,

In body, soul, and spirit,

As well as Mother Dearest,

I pray that you are fearless

In the pursuit of your dreams,

And no matter if you are tall, short, skinny, or fat,

Be proud of how you look in your jeans,

As I said, you are Black Queens,

I can’t stress that enough,

Society tends to try to make us forget that,

But you must call their bluff,

Your friends are there by choice,

So, respect them, and their voice,

If you’re ever feeling depressed

Talk to someone that makes you happy,

And get those sorrows off of your chest,

Life is too short to be stressed,

Try to make smarter decisions in the beginning,

This will ensure a better ending,

And lessen the hardships in between,

No matter what happens to you,

You can choose to be nice or mean,

Should Black Queens swing?

I guess it depends,

Don’t take out your ear rings over silly, petty things,

But, don’t be bullied or demeaned,

Cherish your family pictures,

Regardless of whether you get along or bicker,

You should always love your sister,

I pray I can one day walk you down the aisle,

Fashion is coming up with your own style,

Try not to do anything that will have you on trial,

Practice patience,

And learn to be forgiving,

And if you love them,

Tell them that while they are still living,

Don’t wait until it’s too late,

If a man calls you out your name,

Don’t hesitate to set the dude straight,

They say don’t judge a book by it’s cover,

But I still say you can spot the winner at the starting gate,

Be prepared for heartbreak,

That is fate,

Deal with the consequences of your mistakes,

Remember that no one is always right,

Perfection is for Christ,

As I sit here and type,

I pray that your futures are bright,

Remember, I’m always here

If you ever need Fatherly advice…
